Role of the institution in the Competence Network on Parkinson’s disease
The Marien-Hospital Hamm is one of the regional centers of the Competence Network on Parkinson’s disease.
Description of the institution
The St. Marien-Hospital Hamm is an Teaching Hospital attached to the University of Münster offering 567 beds in 17 medical specialities serving an area of 300,000 citizens. Furthermore, the Clinic of Neurology is attached to the Private University of Witten-Herdecke. The hospital is equipped with a wide range of modern diagnostic tools (MRI, CT, DSA, SPECT etc.).
The Clinik of Neurology covers the whole spectre of neurological diseases. This includes special treatment of movement disorders (special units for Parkinson's disease and other extrapyramidal disorders) cerebrovascular diseases (including stroke unit) neuroimmunological diseases (mainly multiple sclerosis) and epilepsy. Treatment also focuses on sleep related diseases.
Patients are treated mostly as inpatients. There is special outpatient consultation for patients receiving Botulinum toxin.
