Role of the institution in the Competence Network on Parkinson’s disease
The Regional Center in Munich promotes cooperation with other Neurological Clinics (Clinics in Lengries and Nitteneau) and Departments of Neurology (Gabersee Hospital, Bad Aibling Clinic).
Description of the institution
As part of the University Hospital Grosshadern of the Ludwig-Maximilian University Munich, the Clinic of Neurology has focused on the treatment of patients with Parkinson syndromes and other diseases of basal ganglia since 1988. Ist out-patient clinic has provided treatment to several hundreds of patients with Parkinson disease and other extrapyramidal movement disorders for many years. The Parkinson research group concentrates ist efforts on the early and differential diagnosis of Parkinson syndromes by pharmacological tests, diagnostic procedures based on neuroimaging in nuclear medicine, and by testing novel treatments in multicenter pharmacological trials. In cooperation with the Departement of Neurosurgery, the Neurological Clinic has provided deep brain stimulation since 1998.
