Role of the institution in the Competence Network on Parkinson’s disease
In September 2003 the Competence Network on Parkinson’s disease has awarded the Department of Neurology of the General Hospital Stralsund with the status Regional Center. This Regional Center is associated with the Coordination Center East located in Dresden.
Description of the institution
Divided in five sections, the General Hospital Stralsund provides the full diagnostic and therapeutic spectrum of a modern hospital. Being a teaching hospital of the Medical School Greifswald, these two institutions are closely linked. In October 2003 Prof. Dr. J.P. Sieb has become chairman of the Department of Neurology. Dr. Sieb was formerly with the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry in Munich. As a member of the Parkinson Network the goal of the Stralsund Centre is to provide the optimum diagnostic work-up and therapy for Parkinson patients in the Stralsund area. The Department has special expertise in geriatrics. It runs a facility for older inpatients and outpatients.
