The Department of Neurology (Director: Prof. Dr. K. Toyka) offers well established outpatient services for extrapyramidal movement disorders. The outpatient clinic for Botulinum toxin treatment is specialised in dystonia, spasticity and autonomic failures. Our research areas include the early diagnosis and differential diagnosis of Parkinsonian syndromes with modern imaging procedures (functional MRI, PET, SPECT, MRI-spectroscopy, transcranial ultrasound), treatment of Parkinson`s disease, the assessment of congnitive and affective disorders and of the pathophysiology of dystonic movement disorders. Basic research on neurodegenerative diseases is done in cooperation with the Institute of Neurochemistry (Prof. Dr. Riederer) of the Department of Psychiatry Würzburg.
